About
I'm a recent Green MBA graduate who is looking for an organization where I can apply my technical business skills toward building a sustainable culture.
My main interests are:
Local government initiatives
I am an active member of Albany, California's sustainability-focused community. From my spot on the city's Sustainability Committee, I have tried to publicize ways that residents here can live with lighter footsteps. We are starting our climate action planning process. I've also created greenalbany.org and administer greenalbany.ning.com
Ecopsychology
My background and inheritance is in the psychology field. I conducted studies that aimed to show how focusing on name brands make people more self-centered and short-sighted. This may seem intuitive, but I used established psych theory to connect the dots in a "scientific method" study. My grandpa was also a jungian who wrote some pieces that resonate with my ecopsychology interest.
Ecological Economics
What gets measured gets done. And our current economic systems measure very little. Because the forest and ocean keepers do not recognize monetary currency, their services and products are free of charge. Ecological costs are not measured, yet they are very real. I am interested in efforts by groups like the Global Reporting Initiative and the World Resources Institute to bring accounting up to date with our scientific understanding of the larger scope in which we carry out our economic activities.
Localizing the food system
I am interested in sourcing more of our foods from close to where we live. I feel like part of the culture of disconnection from the environment stems from our physical distance from the land that grows the life that we put into our cells. I envision being able to walk to at least some of the places where your food comes from, and for every child to know what vegetables and fruit taste like ten seconds from the vine. I also have a certificate in permaculture design.
Calendars
I believe that the way we perceive time contributes largely to our cultural attitudes. The gregorian calendar is a perfect reflection of the unsustainable culture that has been going on. 13moon.com
My professional goal: to serve as business manager to an office or organization of ecopsychology therapists or academics.
