About
I am an American ex-pat living in Thailand for most of the last 10 years.
I am teaching in the Faculty of Management Science at Ubon Ratchathani University (Technological Change and the Environment, Different Economic Paradigms for Business Management and English). I am also working on a PhD in the university's Integrated Studies Program on developing the Thai Sufficiency Economy philosophy into a grassroots development program for use in non-Buddhist societies. The main thrust of my research is the development of community development indices for use particularly in non-monetary communities.
I am active in the ned.com community and have become a huge and active proponent of online collaborative and social benefit communities. I am active with the Buddhist Economic Research Platform and head of the planning committee for an international conference for that group next December.
I believe that everyone on earth has a right to live a healthy, fulfilling life (which doesn't mean one driven by consumerism.) To that end, I am working to make my life more sustainable and helpful to others and working with communities in Thailand and Africa to develop sustainable futures that are rich and supportive. I am working actively in the areas of safe water and cures to waterborne diarrheal illnesses.
I believe that each individual has a physical, spiritual and financial responsibility to help her/his neighbor (whether they live next door or half-way around the world) in getting there. To this end, I do what ever I can to share the gifts I have been given with those around me. I am an active member of the Giving Project of ned.com)
For the above reasons, I hate Big White Trucks!
Human beings will be happier - not when they cure cancer or get to Mars or eliminate racial prejudice or flush Lake Erie but when they find ways to inhabit primitive communities again. That's my utopia. Kurt Vonnegut
