 http://www.chemicalshealthmonitor.org

What can it offer you?

This new website is being launch as a part of a project called “Chemicals Health Monitor”. It provides a comprehensive compilation of recent information and evidence about the links between chemical contaminants in the environment and ill-health.

Features include:

·         A list of several diseases (Asthma, Autism, Breast cancer, Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases, Diabetes, Endometriosis, Infertility, Obesity, Parkinson’s Disease, Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer, Testicular Dysgenesis Syndrome) associated with chemical contamination.

·         The environmental risk factors associated with these different human health conditions, trends in specific disease incidence, and disease specific costs

·         An introduction to and latest news on chemical safety policy, especially the EU legislation known as REACH*, and on human biomonitoring

·         An opportunity to participate in the CHM project, share your events and to sign up for “Chemicals and Disease News Bulletin”. This weekly newsletter provides a digest of latest scientific research findings published in both referenced journals and the media.

·         Links to CHM materials as well as to external resources and documents, declarations and consensus statements on chemicals and human health

(* Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)

The Chemical Health Monitor project was launched in March 2007 by the Health and Environment Alliance with other partner organisations. Its aim is to improve public health by ensuring that key scientific evidence on the links between chemicals and ill-health are translated into policy as quickly as possible. The team involved in this highly participatory project hope that by highlighting the compelling scientific basis for added controls over certain chemicals, it will encourage EU policies that are precautionary and participatory, especially with regard to the implementation of REACH, and the substitution of hazardous chemicals.
