About

Thomas is a young motivated Liberian youth with a positive attitude, dedicating his fruitful time in working as a volunteer with diverse youth communities in his country to help efforts in fighting Poverty and ignorance through participation and skill development initiatives.

He is presently National Focal Point for Global Youth Coalition against HIV/AIDS-GYCA for Liberia 2008 - 2009.

Co-Facilitator/Trainer for the Creating Local Connections West Africa (CLCWA)-Liberia Project and the Coordinator for his organization’s Programs, The African Child Peace Initiative (ACPI)-Liberia and Represents Africa Youth for Peace and Development (www.aypad.org) in Liberia, with its headquarters in Freetown.

He understands that governing the secret of human existence is an inescapable quest and duty one should perform, given the numerous challenges face with young people especially with the high rate of poverty and also unemployment amongst them.

In the shortest past, Thomas traveled around West African corridors, mainly lived on refugee camps for the past 6 years. After his long stay in the Ivory Coast, he traveled back home march, 2000 for assessment for possible return and reintegration. His dream was not met due to continue insecurity during the Taylor regime. Thomas travel back and continue on to Ghana also due to the ongoing political stands in the Ivory coast 2001-2002.

While in Ghana, he grew interest in working for humanity as a youth involving in child and youth developments and founded the Children Empowerment Organization (CEO) in 2004, which had lobbied for educational support for disadvantage and unaccompanied children.

Thomas’s decision to involve into humanitarian affairs was hugely implicated from his past personal experiences through a war zone as a child, that moved him towards a tireless effort for humanity. He contributed immensely to peace, and conflict resolution and youth development activities both in Ghana and now back home. With his profession as IT – Professional, Thomas believed, that he also, had something to contribute to the nation’s youth development.

As a growing desire, seen total calm to conflict and a process of operation sweeping wave as declare by Ellen led government for national development, he have decided to return home in July 2006 to contribute to his brother’s effort which have led to the construction of a Multi-purpose Youth Center in one war-affected community, Caldwell, once use as a military base by one warlord, Prince Johnson.

The goal of the Caldwell Youth Peace-Building Center is to enhance the life skills of youth and their caregivers as to improve their living conditions and their capacity for building a peaceful future for themselves and for Liberia.

As a determination to overcome the many challenges face with young people through positive, empowering actions, He has been working on intended projects for the youth center in both ICT & Entrepreneurship and HIV/Aids educations for the youth, which is intended to make young boys and girls self reliance, be employed maintain good health to foster the development of their motherland Liberia and beyond.

Recently, after a 4 weeks course with GYCA in political advocacy with HIV/AIDS, in June 2008, in July Thomas made an experiential travel to Uganda, one of the hardest hit nation in Africa with the Aids epidemic, to work alone with the Aids Support Organization of Uganda – TASO-Uganda, (www.tasouganda.org), both learning from their 21 years organizational strategic and also gaining a thought of experience on how HIV/AIDs have been managed over the years there.

He is more inspired by his recent engagement with Takingitglobal-CLCWA-Liberia which he consider the greatest opportunity to be able to share his idea with his peers in order to promote the used of ICT &Entrepreneurship skills to solving problems and connecting with others in the region and worldwide.

Thanks BOWO,

It seems sometimes hard to deliver in the mist of scarcity and inequality. The war just ended, have caused this country a very huge gap in every sector of human economic, social and geographical marks.

As a returning youth after war, who have lost almost everything, trying to put peaces back to myself, i belief all of my dreams for the general good of all humanity can only be fully achieved through lobbying, advocacy, sharing, and communication. This is why i believe i have reached to one of the greatest sites in my life. Every individual i spoke with here on WISEREARTH have contributed something to my life and my struggles for HUMAN SANITY. This INSPIRES me alot

I appreciate your comments and believe actually that together, as one-world-earth's concern citizens, we can change the stories make the new general more happier.

Thank you and welcome always with every neccessary support you are capable of providing for my dreams and programs for the youth and children of Liberia and the world at large.

Regards,

Thomas

Thomas,

Such a wonderful person you are with all your important work. Regarding your question on "how knowledge can be use to develop war afected youth and children in Liberia." I think you've answered that yourself by using your ICT knowledge to understand better, to connect with people beyond your national border who can support you in supporting those youth and children.

On a more general level, we must extract wisdom out of knowledge to an understanding that living by fear (individually or nationally) can only lead to selfish competition and war (both subtle and frontal, both psychological and physical). So, if there is one function knowledge serves, it is to change minds. The medium can be anything from face to face conversation to Hollywood movies (remember Leonardo DI Caprio's Blood Diamond?), and at best, by being the change one wish to see in the world. Like what you're doing.

Changing minds inevitably leads to changing the world. That's how I see it.

Yours in advocacy,

Bowo

My appreciations to all, i believe now that the world with technology is a global Village and more of inspiring continent for all to live if only we keep the secret of been peaceful and tolerable at all times.

I appreciate my friend ANAM and other great supporters of world peace and unity.

Together, i believe we can bring the world to Unity and sanity for good. I just updated my profile for you my frieds, all my efforts are vboluntary since my country just return from war, i believe that there is no money in the system, and whenever there a cent for what i attempt to do, i appreciate it for the good of me, my family and the new generation after me.

I always solicit supporting ideas and mentorship from elders and grown up persons who have live their best of life. I belief they have a lot to contribute to every effort the youngest man is making today, with their help, we can solve the evolving problems.

I will appreciate everyone here to contact me.....or share with me their ideas on how and can better do whatever i dream of. Presently, i, together with peers are engaging our government to promote Agriculture through our Youth Empowerment and Sustainable Agriculture Program, please read: http://www.changemakers.com/en-us/node/9848.

I am also working together with three women, to initiate a street Child Support program, called Educate a Child - Child Empowerment Organization, which seeks to get street kids off the street and help them go to school.

Here is Liberia, there are many cheaper schools as compare to some developing countries. I will appreciate more ideas on how to improve strategies to help these kids and get support for the program.

Thanks all for your encouraging words and welcome always,

Regards

Hello there,

A hardy welcome to the wiserearth family I see that you are in the business of peace building. Keep this always on your mind when it comes to the business of peace and that is this that the business of peace is every bit as tough as the business of war there is no difference and peace will exact an equal level of sacrifice as war including death. I say this not to bring you down but to point out that unlike war where its purpose revolves around killing people and breaking things peace on the other hand builds up that which has been broken and gives life to those holding on to their last breath of hope.

Your walk is a good one, keep it true,

Randy
