About
I am a retired public school teacher of high school social studies. I have also specialized in keeping at risk youth in school working with "Reconnecting Youth," for which I now train teachers across the country.
I went through ROTC at Stanford, became an officer in U.S. Army Intelligence in 1968, was sent to Vietnam where the reality of war struck home. I applied there for conscientious objector status and, after a 4 month investigation, was so classified and honorably discharged.
I have been a volunteer for the American Friends Service Committee since 1970 and became a Quaker in 1982.
I am married and have one step-son and two grandchildren.
I live now on an island in Puget Sound near Seattle. Our island is moving toward sustainablility in a holting and ad hoc way.
For fun, I sail and row with the local competitive rowing team.
