About

temporary:

Prior to my career in chemistry, I garnered a decade of business management experience, mostly in the hospitality industry. I received my B.S. in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Boston under the guidance of Dr. John Warner. After working as the Director of Laboratories at UMass Boston, I joined Dr. Warner at the Center for Green Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The "university years" included work in the research lab where my focus was on the synthesis of natural products (specifically a medicinal product produced in minute quantities by a sponge in the pacific ocean) and involved mostly organic synthesis. We worked primarily on environmentally benign synthetic methods and methods of controling the stereochemistry of products. The "university years" also included a great deal of laboratory teaching and educational outreach to K-12 schools and local community organizations. I'm very pleased to be continuing these efforts on the non-profit front: reaching out to the next generations of scientists, engaging them in Green Chemistry and Sustainability activities that teach them not only how to be good environemental stewards, but that science is really pretty easy - and often a lot of fun!
