About

Hello!

My name is Corey Colwell-Lipson. I'm the founder and director of Green Halloween, a program by Seattle-based non-profit, Treeswing. Green Halloween is a non-profit, grassroots movement to create healthier and more sustainable holidays, beginning with Halloween. Green Halloween is also meant to raise awareness and funds for Treeswing and to highlight the organization's mission to improve the lives of children via improved nutrition, exercise and healthy environments.

Thanks to the support and enthusiasm of individuals, businesses and organizations (as well as the press), in 2007, GH took the Seattle-area by storm. So for '08 we've decided to go nation wide, again with the help of sponsors and point-of-contact volunteers (if you know of anyone who might be interested in partnering, please let us know).

Of course, Halloween is the just the tip of the iceberg and so in January, my mother (and life coach) Lynn Colwell, and I started The Green Year, LLC. The Green Year will take a look at how we can keep the fun but lose the unhealthy and un-Earth-friendly aspects of ALL holidays, as well as special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, office parties, etc. Our book, Celebrate Green! Creating Eco-Savvy Holidays, Celebrations & Traditions for the Whole Family will be released in October. We've also launched our Featured Vendor Program where companies who are Green Year approved will be licensed to use our "seal of approval." Featured Vendors will also give at least 5% of the sale of their products of services to our beneficiary, Treeswing.

Thanks so much for your interest and support.

Cheers!

Corey

Hey there -- totally random that I came across your page, but I'm up in Bellingham, WA, and was actually just thinking this past Halloween that we need to figure out a way to make all our consumption-oriented holidays a lot more sustainable -- so great to hear that you're on it! Best of luck!
