About

I started Enlighten Me Designs in order to raise monies to offset costs for trash removal in the Tangipahoa River, between Interstate I-12 at Robert, LA., and Lee's Landing.  I relocated to Louisiana in 2005, and bought a water front home on the River.  Immediately, I noticed how much trash was being dumped into the River, and at that time started my clean-up work.  The amount of litter, used appliaces, construction debris and yard waste that is dumped into the River is astounding, and the samll amount of removal that I, my husband, and any volunteers we can find is only making a small difference; but, a difference, none the less.

EMD raises monies by creating and selling decorative light-swith-plates on Ebay.  Items are custom made to order, and can be viewed at the company web site http://www.EnlightenMeDesigns.com, or puchased on Ebay, Seller ID: JWE2524.  Mostly, I fund the clean-up efforts by funding EMD.  Grants have been applied for, but are competitive and hard to obtain.  Once a year, I work with the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation and the Ocean Concervancy to clean-up trash, and recruit volunteers for that event.

I am a former college instructor of English composition, ESL, linguistics and Sociology.  I have a B.A. in English, a Master's in applied sociology, am working on a second Master's in Health studeis and education, and I am ABD (all but dissertation) in curriculum and instruction for higher education, at UCF, in Orlando, FL.  One day, I will get back to Florida to complete that degree.  I am married to John Eichhorn.  We have no children, but do have 3 dogs.
