About

Hello. I am Dick Pierce, an American - a Native of New England( NE) - currently we winter in Austin, TX and spend  the summer in E-NE - that is, Rhode Is., Martha's Vineyard and Amherst MA, and in S-H. I have lived in SE-MA, W-MA, S-CT for over 40 years, done tours in FL, GA, CO, and now 10 years in TX. We have "been around" and as Australians say: "Been there, done that."

For the last 25 years I have been progressively more into Gardening, Farming, and Food - gardener in MA and CT, Master Gardener in CO, Master Gardener, Master Naturalist, Master Composter, Citizen Forester, and Landscape Designer in Texas. I have also developed a passion for restoring the Earth, cooperating with Nature, and leaving a better world to our Grandchildren - this sounds like, and is, Permaculture (PC).

I became aware of PC in CO through my work on Traditional American Indian Agriculture and their Earth-kindly ways. This blossomed into PC education in Guatemala and coordinating PC courses in Guate., NM-Pueblos, and the Pine Ridge Res. in SD. On moving to Austin, I began giving PC talks and did a 2-year PC teaching apprenticeship. I have been teaching the PC Basic, Fundamentals, and Design Courses for about 5 years now on my own. I am a founding member of the Austin Permaculture Guild which has touched  thousands of  people with its outreach Intros and graduated over a hundred from its Design Courses.

Over the years, we have always spent a part/all of the summer in New England - RI, E-MA, Martha's Vineyard. Visits to my friend, biodynamic farmer, CSA and Waldorf supporter, and author, Trauger Groh, in Wilton have been a relished part of many of these summers. THis year, in addition to PC courses in TX, we are also teaching in NE.

With 2 successful pilot Basics Courses in the Boston area, we have now scheduled full Design Courses in Greenfield, NH (60-70 mi from Boston) for June 11-19 and on Martha's Vineyard, MA (air from BOS, Prov.; ferries from Woods Hole/New Bedford, MA) from Sept. 10-18. These are the same effective and well-tuned format we have developed over the years, plus a great line-up of local experts, practitioners, and field trips in both location - the combination is terrific. The course flyers are on www.permie.us - we encourage you to look them over. Also there are 3 home-made video clips - vignettes of my teachings - on UTube Dick Pierce.

So, that is a little "about" me and my walkabout/songline. I'm glad to have found this great web site, Best to you.
