About
Seeking more people with whom to share a sustainable future in Petaluma, CA, knowing this is impossible without global/local shift: cleaning up MY act is simply not enough. I want to consistenly do good work toward UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEMS and then OFFER BEST SOLUTIONS available as widely as possible. Currently looking for information and leadership from Paul Hawken, Richard Heinberg, Jared Diamond, Wendell Barry, Mary Oliver...seeking beauty along with sustainable practices. Taking ten minutes to walk along the Petaluma River and connect with the birds is healing; you must have your ways, too? Heal yourself first; then help me and all of us.
Want to elect more progressive Council members in Petaluma, start a lecture series, help form a food-coop, to help support our wonderful local economy and culture here along the Petaluma River that runs muddy and yet is full of fish and visited by an amazing array of birdlife. This is a wonderful place to live and our widening circle of friends continue to make it a model of sustainability. Petaluma is considered the greenest Bay Area city per Greenbelt Alliance (2006).
Currently active with Sustainable Petaluma, Petaluma Tomorrow, Living Wage Coalition, Petaluma Community Coalition, Moose Lodge 475, Petaluma Independent Business Alliance and a close-knit group of musical, writer and artist friends- among other categories! Seeking to tell the truth through fiction, blogging, I maintain a blog at Petaluma360.com, a NYT beta site, then cc to 6 or so other blogs including Bioneers.
Some highlights of my activism:
- Started leafletting for Adlai Stevenson at age 5
- Hold House Concerts and help produce events mostly in Petlauma, CA
- Founded Students for Democratic Society chapter with others at Northern Illinois University, and brought George Lincoln Rockwell, Pres., American Nazi Party, as a guest speaker vs. head of our Political Science Dept. Fascinating! Seemed no one knew the Nazi's rant - and that logic had nothing to do with it.
- Moved to Berkeley and participated in all the anti-Vietnam protests starting in 1965. Active in SDS, helped start a Utopian Communities class as part of Free University resulting in several Oregon communes.
- Lived communally in wonderful old Berkeley house with a dozen folks, using Cheese Board for food, ourselves for entertainment. We would gather after dinner to paint, sing, share whatever.
- Moved to SF where I became involved with Star Alliance World Peace Radio and Television Network, producing TV and radio shows. Metfolks at "The Gallery," later called 3220 Sacramento St., a reimagined car garage where visionaries met and helped each other for many years. As Gallery Manager, met and befriended Jerry Brown, Francis Moore Lappe', Frijof Capra, David Brower - and Paul Hawken when he presented his ideas to Threshold Foundation funders. Introduced US Education Dept. to the Waldorf School system as they were seeking models for charter schools. There are now 9 Waldorf-based charter schools in Northern CA and I continue to believe this is the best school system for young children - period.
