About
"It is possible that the next Buddha will not take the form of an individual. The next Buddha may take the form of a community – a community practicing understanding and loving kindness, a community practicing mindful living. This may be the most important thing we can do for the survival of the earth."
Thich Nhat Hanh, Buddhist teacher

"Il est possible que le prochain Buddha ne soit pas un individu. Le prochain Buddha pourrait être une communauté - une communauté qui met en pratique la compréhension des autres ainsi
que l’amour et la gentillesse affectueuse, une communauté qui met en
pratique une vie réfléchie. Ceci est peut-être l’acte le plus important
que nous pouvons faire pour la survie de la terre."
Thich Nhat Hanh, Professeur Buddhist

Tout d'abord merci à notre groupe dédié de traducteurs bénévoles en France qui nous ont aidéà traduire tout ce site en français. Si vous êtes en France, je vous invite à devenir membre de notre groupe WiserFrance.
Background
I feel very lucky to be part of the WiserEarth team and to be able to work with Paul Hawken's Natural Capital Institute. As communications director, I help to coordinate communications and international outreach activities for WiserEarth. I have worked on web-related projects since completing my postgraduate studies in 2003.
Previously, I have worked in multimedia and marketing in the UK, Australia and France. My experience in the non-profit sector includes market research projects for a sustainable business forum and a green business network. I hold an MBA from San Francisco State University and a BA in French and Psychology from Lancaster University, England.
I have been spending the past year helping to make WiserEarth available in different languages.
We just launched the site in French, Spanish and Portuguese (click on language at the bottom of this page). My sincere thanks to all the incredible work of our 40+ volunteer translators around the world who made this possible.
....we have a few other translation groups which are working on other languages. I would love to see WiserEarth in more languages too:
If you would like to help with any of this localization work, let me know by sending me a message (top right of this page).
I have recently helped to launch WiserTuesdays. Theseare free monthly gatherings where members of WiserEarth, nonprofits, social changemakers and web innovators can:
- share what they are working on as well as their passions and ideas for changing the world
- exchange and learn about best practices especially related to using web technology for social change
- share resources
- build friendships and alliances with likeminded people and with others working on similar issues
- work on initiatives or projects together
WiserTuesdays Paris are a collaboration between WiserEarth, la Ruche and NetSquared. They are based on NetSquared's successful Net Tuesday events which already exist in over 40 countries around the world. These events provide a chance for all those interested in the intersection of social technologies and social change to exchange stories, build new relationships and collaborate.
These events have resulted in the setting up of a Social Innovation Camp on 26th June in Paris. You can find out more here.
If you interested in setting up some WiserTuesday gatherings near you for other 'wiser folk', please let me know.
If you're based in or near Paris, I invite you to join our WiserEarth France group which we use for discussions and exchanging ideas around the work that's taking place here in France and helping France-based WiserEarth members to network with each other and share information.
Finally, if you speak a bit of French, take a look at a presentation on web 2.0/social media for social entrepreneurs which I recently did at La Ruche in Paris (a fantastic workspace for social entrepreneurs here in Paris). Feel free to share with others.
...oh and by the way, I think Leif Utne and John Warnow rock for having launched this and for making it happen....

Chère Camilla, Hélas mon française est encore plus pire que l` anglaise. Et - de plus - les espérances pour ViserEarth en allemande ou polonaise sont faibles. Pas possible! Prés une demi d`heure de recherche, sans résultât!
cordialement

Keep up the great work for the common good. Each link in the chain grows as we connect around the world and locally. The real heart of humanity emerges out of the suffering and ignorance we have for so long endured.
I and grateful for all my sisters and brothers who have picked themselves up, taken a stand and gone forward to achieve one kindness, one good action, one expression of compassion after another. They become radiant stars of light in a dark place leading those who seek help and escape from the human prison of ignorance and un-necessary pain.
You are the heroes of our generation who strive to the heights of human possibility for the good of the whole for the good of our human family and the children who will follow us.
You are living inspirations that give joy to the name humanity. |

Bonjour Camilla! My name is Po-Yi, and I dropped by to say 'hi' -- I joined WiserEarth not so long ago. I really like the quote by Thich Nhat Hahn that you posted on your 'about' section. I've read a few of his books in the past, and he has been a great inspiration.
Look forward to hearing from you soon!
Take care,
Po-Yi |
