Have you ever read Barbara Cooney's storybook "
Miss Rumphius"? In it a little girl tells her grandfather that when she grows up she will travel the world and then live by the sea. That's all very well, he tells her, but there is one more thing that she must do. She must do something to make the world more beautiful.
I'm not going to start planting lupine flowers everywhere I go like Miss Rumphius, but I do love the flower. For its own sake, and for the aim that it reminds me to pursue.
