About

How did I get here?

Here's a lil' story I've got to tell about Annijke Wade in the environmental cartel, it started way back in history, ROCK THAT MIC...

I remember hiking in Sugarloaf, admiring the tributaries of Sonoma Creek, and
having a keen interest in fish as a child.
I remember visiting the Miwok Museum and the Redwoods

These shaped my early thoughts on the environment

I went to high school, Santa Catalina School, and decided I wanted to learn more about the complex processes of the EARTH and what we could to do preserve it's integrity so I took a class called Environmental Studies AP taught by Dr. Paulette Struckman.
In that class I explored the COASTAL CHAPARELLE ecosystem and found it amazing and beautiful....

It was time to learn more...

...

Time for college in the Pacific
Northwest

Lewis & Clark College's Environmental Studies program seemed to offer me the best opportunity to study environmental issues in an urban setting while still getting a well rounded Liberal Arts education.

I loved learning about practical solutions to preserving the integrity of my places of interest, salmon in the Pacific Northwest & the Redwoods of Northern California

The summer after my first year, I took an internship
with Sonoma Ecology Center.

Back to school, more school, more school.

In March 2006, I visited
Washington DC with Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance for their annual
Wilderness Week...AMAZING!!

The DC METRO IS HOT! Efficient, beautiful, and the pinnacle of mass transportation!

During summer 2006, I visited Tryon Creek Life Community Farm and was introduced to cob, natural building, permaculture, and urban environmental thought.

During that same summer, I also attended Greenpeace &Seventh Generation's Change it  , a leadership conference for ecologically minded college students.

After a fun filled sustainable summer, I Co-Chaired
the Environmental Affairs Symposium at Lewis & Clark, we brought
Shellenburger and Nordhaus authors of the "Death of Environmentalism."

Their paper, confirmed my beliefs, environmentalism as we knew it was DEAD...it was
time for NEW STRATEGIES, NEW SOLUTIONS, THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

So...

DC Metro + Shellenburger&Nordhaus + Cob +
City Repair Organization +

Portland's streamline city design
=
the overwhelming potential of American
Cities and Urban Areas

Ah, yes! Urbanization...check this out...
After attending the Village Building Convergence for a month and a half (and it's only a week long event!) I decided I wanted to blow my mind and learn all about cities and designs for cities...
I woke up one day and knew I needed to go to ARCOSANTI, I had learned about it in a class and had nearly forgotten about it...so July 2007 I went!
