Towards Racial and Ethnic Equality

About

I’d like to be a part of the growing movement in social entrepreneurship, and to aid corporations in joining causes that give back to the community in a substantial way.  I've recently started a blog that will center around positive changes already being made in our society, by communities, individuals and corporations.

My experiences have been very diverse and I bring a lot to the table.  Last year I successfully managed a pr campaign for an outdoor magazine’s, $250,000 mobile tour, garnering four times the media coverage than the year before, with over 4.5 million media impressions.  I've worked in development, written a grant proposal and received funds to conduct research in Thailand, lived on an off-the-grid community as a garden intern; I've written a successful, 75-page ethnography, and have dedicated my time to environmental causes and sustainability since age 10.

Currently, I take classes in Dietetics & Nutrition, and hope to eventually receive a master's or PhD in Public Health.  It's my goal to educate people, through hands-on experience, about the link between the environment and our health.  I want to provide people and communities with the tools they need to become empowered, to live happy and healthy lives and to be able to give the same to their children.

In my spare time I garden with my housemate in our backyard.  Right now we're harvesting kale and getting ready to plant some more of the same.  We have fingerling potatoes ready to dig up and also some pearl onions.  Broccoli is next on our list of vegetables to plant.  I also enjoy deepening my knowledge in the areas of Dietetics, Nutrition and Public Health, and you can regularly find me doing research online.  Writing, dancing and cooking are three other activities I try to fit into my schedule on a regular basis - writing and cooking daily, with hip hop dance classes weekly.  Creativity is a huge part of my life and without it, I would certainly become unhappy!

Books I'm currently reading:

"The Power of Less" by Leo Babauta

"Contemporary Nutrition, 7th Edition" by Gordon Wardlaw and Anne Smith

"The Jungle Effect" by Daphne Miller
