Problem  [Edit]

Currently, impact information about issues effecting us globally is housed in multiple places that are generally only accessed, one at a time, by experts who already know what they are looking for. A great opportunity exists to aggregate this information into a single resource that will allow people and organizations around the world to better understand how their actions effect the planet and its inhabitants, for better or worse, and to find better models to do what they do more sustainably.

Action  [Edit]

Socialimpacts.org is an open-source center for sharing social and environmental impact data. It will be free of charge and open to the public to both access and contribute data. This will include information from multiple areas including environmental issues such as carbon and energy, health and human services like healthcare access and affordable housing, and international economic development.

Results  [Edit]

This prototype allows users to contribute published research data for social return on investment analysis. Setting baselines is critical for understanding impact. With your contributions, the collective pool of baseline data will grow and help more and more organizations understand their true impact.

Socialimpacts.org is a project of SVT Group (www.svtgroup.net), a social venture company based in San Francisco working to help organizations of all kinds, and their investors, measure, manage and communicate their social and environmental impact. We believe that by providing the right management guidance and information management tools, organizations and investors with social and environmental goals can use their limited resources to create the maximum positive impact possible.

Limitations  [Edit]

We are still working on the user interface, functionality, and general ease of use of the database.   We would greatly appreciate any feedback.
