The Tri-Town Energy Conservation Contest joined together the towns of Woodbridge, Orange, and Bethany to present students ranging from the first grade to high school seniors a contest to develop creative and educational entries that teach the community about clean energy and global warming.

The second annual contest for K-12 students in the tri-town area to inspire the community to save energy, reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, and lessen global climate change. Out of 88 entries, the finalists were awarded with prizes of iPods and gift certificates.

Action  [Edit]

The Woodbridge Clean Energy Initiative (WCEI) in conjunction with the Bethany Clean Energy Task Force and the Orange Clean Energy Task Force is proud to announce the second annual contest for K-12 students in the tri-town area to inspire the community to save energy, reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, and lessen global climate change. This year's contest will focus on ways that we can: harness the energy of nature, conserve energy, and clean up the environment.

Participants may enter actual inventions, drawings, videos, or written pieces. Each entry will be judged on creativity, originality, feasibility, and artistic quality. The submissions will be displayed and judged live at Bethany's Earth Day on May 16th at Amity Middle School in Bethany. The winning submissions will also be showcased on WCEI's web site.

Eighty eight youths recently took part in the Tri-Town Energy Conservation Contest, which drew attention to clean energy and global warming. The submissions were judged by the Woodbridge Clean Energy Task Force with representatives from Bethany and Orange.

The Town of Woodbridge is officially a Connecticut Clean Energy Fund Community that has agreed to develop and execute programs to ensure that at least 20% of the town's municipal and household energy comes from renewable sources by 2010.

The Woodbridge Clean Energy Initiative (WCEI) is a task force of volunteer town residents that has been established by the Board of Selectmen to assist the town in reaching this goal. WCEI seeks to inspire and teach children and their families about conservation and the use of renewable energy resources.

Goals:

- Have over 300 households sign up for the clean energy option on their electric bill by May 1, 2008.

- Provide information and programs to teach people about conservation and new energy technology.

- Facilitate the installation of solar collectors on municipal buildings. Some of these will be funded from state grants.

- Help the town officials and employees to be more aware of conservation options and facilitate the implementation of a Woodbridge energy plan

- Increase the awareness of Amity and Beecher students, and inspire them and their families to conserve energy and recycle household goods.

- Stimulate citizen demand for more renewable energy for electricity, heating and transportation purposes.
