Abstract:
International Committee of Red Cross, in confidential report about East Jerusalem, accuses Israel of 'general disregard' for obligations under humanitarian law, and law of occupation in particular; says Israel is 'reshaping' Jerusalem metropolitan area with construction of separation barrier, establishment of outer ring of Jewish settlements and creation of dense road network linking different Israeli neighborhoods and settlements in and outside Jerusalem; says this has increased isolation of Palestinians living in Jersualem from rest of West Bank and increased difficulty for some of them to easily reach Jerusalem's schools and hospitals; report considers all land that Israel conquered in 1967 to be occupied territory; Israeli officials disagree with report's premises and conclusions
