About [Edit]
Espejos or mirrors in Spanish is a mentoring program for emerging Mexican visual artists. The emerging artists learn about visual art materials, resources for artists, critical response around their work and a culminating visual art exhibition.
Espejos is sponsored by Intermedia Arts and The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, meant to help develop new and emerging Mexican artists mostly those who have NEVER had a public showing of their work. The program spans a 7-month period during which the participants meet in pairs regularly and as a group monthly to develop their work. The mentors are fluent in Spanish and are familiar with artistic resources in the Twin Cities.
Mentors were selected by Intermedia Arts staff by speaking directly to Mexican artists, and by selecting a group of established artists who are not only accomplished in their own body of work, but who would also work well together. Mentees are selected based on their commitment to work with a mentor, as well as their interest in developing their work--however raw or new it is.
