About [Edit]
http://bmsustainablefood.wikispaces.com/
Climate change is here now, and severe impacts are just around the corner (see here for summary of latest meeting of climate scientists). This combined with some collectively held views as to what our food is and should be bring us together to work on developing a more sustainable local food economy. On these pages you will find thoughts, ideas and discussions on a range of food related topics. However this wikispace is only a tool, and only forms part of the activities of the move towards sustainable food in the Blue Mountains region of NSW Australia. In the links section you may find connections to other local groups working towards sustainability. Our group meets once a month in Katoomba and has been asking how we can feed 100,000 people in the region sustainably. The answers are interesting and we are finding there is no one solution - there are many that all work together that can make our communities resilient and sustainable. Some of our influences are:
- Permaculture (of which there is a large comunity of permaculturalists in the Mountains)
- Seed Savers
- Cittislow (of which Katoomba is a slow food capital)
- Transition Towns (which is based on permaculture principals)
- 160km (100mile) diet (which encourages local food production)
