About  [Edit]

Sustainable Eating: Building Community through Food is an online magazine exploring sustainable food practices for personal, community and environmental health.

Sustainable Eating content may include analysis and discussion of the environmental and social impacts of food production, distribution and consumption; innovative culinary practices; issues in health and nutrition; and ethical questions regarding the foods we eat.

Each issue of Sustainable Eating will explore a specific theme, as well as include pieces in the following, regularly-appearing departments:

  • In Season: recipes, anecdotes and information about foods that are currently "in season;"
  • The Foods We Eat: longer articles providing in-depth explorations of food items;
  • Health & Nutrition: food-related health and nutrition news, including nutritional information, health advice and warnings, new research findings and analysis of food-related health and/or nutrition trends and topics;
  • Art as Activism: artwork that directly or indirectly deals with issues of food justice (all mediums accepted);
  • Food News & Events: short, frequently updated news briefs on food-related current events, as well as info about upcoming food events, such as food festivals, workshops, classes, conferences, protests and other actions; and
  • Book, Film & Product Reviews: reader opinions, reactions and reviews on food-related books, films and products.

Get Involved

As part of the Sustainable Eating community, your voice is a valuable, and vital, component of the dialogue. Please consider participating by submitting content or by making editorial suggestions for future issues. All suggestions, ideas and feedback can be sent to se@semagazine.com.

In addition, we are currently seeking people to volunteer with Sustainable Eating on an on-going basis. We are looking for folks to help with outreach and story solicitation, to become regular correspondants, to write reviews, to join our editorial team and to further develop our long-term ideas and vision.

If you want to get more involved, please be in touch to let us know your specific interests — thanks!
