About  [Edit]

What is ILEIA?

ILEIA the Centre for Information on Low External Input and Sustainable Agriculture, is an independent organization with the mandate to contribute to poverty alleviation through the promotion of agro-ecological approaches.

ILEIA has chosen the collection and dissemination of information as a means of contributing to improving the development options available to farmers, by informing those either directly involved in, or indirectly affecting, rural development. Information disseminated by ILEIA is freely available to all who wish to use and/or reproduce it.

ISO 9001 certified

As from March 2006, ILEIA is ISO 9001 - 2000 certified by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance, Rotterdam. This is a certificate of quality assurance relating to our administrative procedures, as well as to our planning, reporting, monitoring and evaluation procedures. This ensures efficient and effective working practices.

Background

In working towards its mission of contributing to poverty alleviation through the promotion of agro-ecological approaches, ILEIA supports the search for sustainable alternatives to conventional high-input agriculture by collecting, analysing and exchanging information on practical field experiences of small farmers, particularly those in resource-poor areas in the South. In the process, ILEIA co-operates with many other organisations and individuals in promoting ecologically sound agriculture throughout the world.

The main target group is Field-level development workers working directly with farmers, within national governments, NGOs, research institutions or other projects. The LEISA Magazines are also read and appreciated by academics, researchers in universities and policy makers.

Financial support

ILEIA is supported by the Dutch Directorate-general for International Cooperation (DGIS), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and a small number of paying subscribers. If you would like to become a paying subscriber to the LEISA Magazine or make a donation to ILEIA please contact us.
