Want Solar Installed by Green-Collar Workers?

The high quality work from local professional installers, combined with the satisfaction of knowing you’re giving back to the community

will give you peace of mind.

Who We Are

Solar Richmond was founded to promote and inspire the use of solar power and energy efficiency in order to bring the economic benefits of the green economy to the local community.  We aim to:

  • Decrease your energy bills through renewable solar energy
  • Protect the planet by decreasing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Provide Richmond residents with cutting-edge solar technology skills that lead to well-paying jobs

What We’ve Done

Solar Richmond has partnered with Richmond BUILD to add solar education to its innovative

9-week pre-apprenticeship construction-training program. This collaboration focuses on Green Collar job skills that include classroom training on solar technology and installation, hands-on experience with installation teams, and valuable connections with solar contractors.  Graduates of the program are Richmond residents and have trained side-by-side with solar contractors to successfully install residential and commercial solar systems.  Our crew members receive living wages and are excited to use their professional skills to help you go solar.

What We Can Do For You

Our experienced crew travels anywhere in the Bay Area and conducts a preliminary residential or commercial assessment of your property according to its size and how much electricity you need.  Not all solar vendors price their products the same and not all solar panels generate the same amount of electricity.  We coordinate getting bids from several local solar vendors, summarize and compare results, give you recommendations from what we have gathered and present you with different options for your project.

Because we have no preference towards any particular vendors, our goal is to help you select the company and solar system that is right for you. When you are ready for the installation, together the chosen company and our Solar Richmond crew will professionally install your solar system.  You will receive a full warrantee from the vendor and will be on your way to saving the planet and your pocketbook!

How do I get started?

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Fax or email us a copy of your electric bill: 510-439-2720
  2. We’ll electronically assess your property on a satellite map
  3. We’ll go on-site to assess your roof
  4. We’ll do research for your project and gather bids from solar vendors
  5. We’ll present you with our easy-to-understand summary of vendor bids
  6. We’ll present you with financing options
  7. We’ll help you decide which solar vendor is best for you
  8. Watch us install your new solar system!

Solar Spotlights

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walnut Creek received a solar system that was installed by the Solar Richmond crew who worked alongside contractors from Real Goods Solar.  The system is expected to supply almost all of the church’s electricity needs while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 1.7 million pounds, equivalent to not driving a car 2 million miles.

“We are proud to have these folks from Richmond working on our solar system,” said Reverend Sylvia Vasquez.  “We are committed to being good stewards of the earth and that is not just about caring for nature, but also caring for our neighbors who struggle with the realities of a challenging urban life.”

Solar Richmond also did a successful install at Andy Young’s residence in Oakland.  “ This program is good for the earth and good for consumers,” said Young.  The installation on Young’s bungalow only took one day and he is very pleased with the results.  “We were confident that we got high quality work and were glad to have the opportunity to help Richmond youth. It felt good to help the environment as well.”

Angela Greene, a graduate of our training program, is now a Solar Richmond Project Manager. “The skills I’ve acquired are skills that I can share with others to help our environment and set an example for my community,” said Greene.  “This is my second career and it’s one I’m looking forward to.”

Media

Solar Richmond has been featured in publications such as USA Today, Contra Costa Times, East Bay Business Times, and on KTVU Channel 2, CBS Channel 5, and ABC Channel 7 news. Our organization is growing and has produced remarkable results.  We seek to bring solar power to more community members, provide professional jobs and training for local residents and protect the environment all at the same time.
