About [Edit]
Reflecting 25 years of publishing history, these 19 articles describe research on fundamental issues of women's human rights, with the end goal being the definition of national and international policy. Lockwood (law, U. of Cincinnati) and his contributors address the history of the development of women's rights and the recasting of women's rights into human rights, the gender of jus cogens, and the development of feminism and cultural relativism as dissident voices. Subjects on religion, culture and women's human rights include those of Middle Eastern and Muslim women, postcolonialism and widows in African societies, and the application of women's human rights in South Asia. Six articles discuss violence and women, including the incidence of war and rape in the former Yugoslavia, limitations of genocidal rape discourse, applying protective law, and dealing with trafficking, two describe economic rights, and three describe reproductive rights.
