Very interesting article in today's (October 2nd) Financial Times -- "To Feed a Need" by Joe Leahy.  If anyone can't access it from the FT website, let me know and I will try to send it to you.  Also, I made a mistake in my earlier comment -- there is a big section in the Sourcebook on Rural Women and IT.  This FT article fits into the Sourcebook discussions on marketing, infrastructure, and IT.

The one area that I have seen little reference to in our reading -- but then I have done little reading -- is IT and rural women.  There is considerable reference in the press to the growing role of IT in rural communities, especially its impact on linking farmers to markets, but little reference to whether women are active users of IT either for marketing purposes or continuing education purposes.  It would/will be interesting to hear more about this topic, especially whether women need more training in this area.
