The 2good2toss.com system in Washington State replaced www.rbme.org (reusable building materials exchange), and was originally focussed on reusable building materials, but has evolved over towards a 'green craigslist'.

There are sections in each county www.2good2toss.com service that relate to trading/exchanging used building materials online.

The Reconstruction Center in Connecticut at http://www.reconnstructioncenter.org/ is in the process to moving over to an 'online materials exchange' using commercial materials exchange software.

Other online building materials exchange is www.chicagomaterialexchange.com which is reserved for use by a dozen or so Chicago City Government Departments, to facilitate trading of used building materials as well as soil.

One important difference between building materials exchanges, and other material exchanges is that there may need to be a 'central depot service' to deal with building materials that the original owner doesn't want to deal with anymore, but which haven't yet found a new good home.

We have been working towards building the capacity to integrate a) a materials exchange with b) a Reuse Store so that the software covers not only direct provider2recipient trades/exchanges, but also works as a system for provider2reusestore and reusestore2recipient exchanges.
