Transition Highbury is one of a growing number of places worldwide who have recognised that the world has finite limits in terms of pollution and energy resources. It is a community lead initiative that seeks to enable those in the community to live a lower carbon lifestyle with a greatly reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Recently it has been obvious that we have undergone a tremendous shock with the still unfolding credit crunch, with a global recession that is getting stronger and unemployment rising here in the UK. Transition Initiatives seek to make a community more resilient in the face of shocks of all sorts, which means being much more reliant on local skills and resources.
