About [Edit]
PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases will be the first open access journal devoted to the world's most neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), such as elephantiasis, river blindness, leprosy, hookworm, schistosomiasis, and African sleeping sickness.
The journal will publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research on all scientific, medical, and public health aspects of these forgotten diseases affecting the world's forgotten people.
It aims to:
* Give a voice to the community of physicians and scientists who work to control these diseases
* Build biomedical research capacity in endemic countries
* Raise awareness of the importance of the NTDS to global health
PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases will begin accepting submissions in 2007. Its launch is supported by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
