About [Edit]
Flight of the Goose: A Story of the Far North
by Alaska writer Lesley Thomas is an award-winning novel set in the contemporary Arctic, in an Inupiat Eskimo village endangered by oil drilling, climate change and cultural loss. It is also a novel about spirituality, deep ecology and cross-cultural healing.
The author interweaves these elements in a star-crossed love story between a young indigenous shaman, and a scientist from the "Outside" who is researching the effects of oil spills on migratory bird habitat.
Lesley Thomas, who grew up in the Arctic in such a village, is a trained arctic ecologist and English teacher. Her story is endorsed by Alaska Natives, top anthropologists, scientists, shamanic practitioners and literary critics. Her website: http://www.lesleythomas.alaskawriters.com
