In today’s global marketplace, we rarely see what is behind the stuff we buy. Where does a particular product come from? What are the working conditions like for the person or people who created it? What impact has their extraction had on the natural environment? On nearby communities?
We all want products that are a good value, safe for the environment and promote the well being of the people at the other end of the production line. It’s not always easy. It often seems the deck is stacked against us—even when we want to do the right thing, the right thing isn’t always obvious, or within reach.

Along the way, we’ll take you on a short global tour. Through film clips and short narratives, we'll introduce you to some of the people who produce the goods we use, and the people affected by the consumption choices we make.
At the Center, we know that the market for socially and environmentally responsible products is just emerging. We also know the road to a just and greener planet is not paved in gold plastic. But we believe that positive choices have positive results. If thousands of consumers take small steps, industry will respond with healthier, more sustainable products.
It’s up to us. What you do matters. Individually and together we can make a difference.
