About [Edit]
This is a report of three years' work into the feasibility of increasing the amount of locally grown and produced food in local schools in the northern Devon area. The report looks at the sourcing of food for school meals and identifies ways in which more local sourcing and healthier choices would improve local social, environmental and economic sustainability. The project worked with school caterers, food growers and producers, teachers, children parents and school governors, health and nutrition professionals, and local regional and national campaigns for reconnecting children with their environment. The report concludes that increasing the amount of locally sourced food in school meals is possible, economically viable and leads to improvements in health, environmental quality and the sustainability of rural communities.
