About [Edit]
"Permaculture simply asks people to put as much into life as they demand from it. Is this too much to ask to save the world? Use its principles in your everyday life. Teach your children, lobby your governments - local, national and international - with the wisdom it contains." (Dr David Bellamy, botanist)
The solution of the current agricultural practices resulting in the poisoning of land and water, in the reduction of biodiversity, and and the removal of billions of tons of soil from previously fertile landscapes, from a permaculture perspective is to introduce design into agriculture.
This is done in order to create permanent high-yielding agricultural ecosystems, so that humans can thrive on as little land as possible, thus leaving as much land as possible as wilderness, if necessary helping the wilderness re-establish itself. This visionary global mission is encapsulated in the word 'permaculture', a shortened form of 'permanent agriculture.'
This article summarises the case for permaculture, its design philosophies and principles, and some steps towards practicing them in the real world.
