About [Edit]
Zimbabwe is a place, according to many, at the edge of crisis. Rolling power outages, unstable currency, natural disasters and water shortages are only some of the challenges facing Zimbabwe at a national level right now. Yet, in the middle of all of this, people in Zimbabwe are finding the resilience of spirit in their people. As formal systems collapse, inventive and life-affirming alternatives to these systems become necessary. Jackie Cahi of Kufunda Learning Village gives us a glimpse into Zimbabwe today and living with one foot in each of the two worlds of collapse and invention.
Read more of this personal reflection by our friend Jackie Cahi, from Kufunda Learning Village in Zimbabwe.

I agree, Allan. When I was in Zimbabwe in October, I was struck by how supported by each other people were, rather than turning away from each other. It seems like there is a true sense of solidarity in Zim and a basic belief that people should take care of each other. As I'm writing this though, I also think of how the government has not been taking care of the people and I wonder how those two things can exist simultaneously...

It is quite amazing how adaptive and resiliant people can be. I was in Harari a few months back and having grown up in Zim it is hard to see just how bad things can get. Yet people survive, or the majority do. Whilst the suffering is terrible the ability of people to survive in a society where all the norms of even basic civilisation like clean water, basic electricity, food in the stores, refuse removal, basic sanitation, healthcare facilities and medicine, the list is endless. Undeniable there is a resource of people some formal as part of aid organizations, but a lot more are informal. People with nothing, people undergoing the same strife as everyone else but with a great desire to try to help others and to lead in anyway they can. Sometimes at great risk of arrest or torture as well, Brave people who overcome the risk and form self help groups to ensure that for many life can go on, Once this madness is over the truth will reveal some truly remarkable people. Zimbabwe has the potential to be a great country and to become a major economic player in Africa. Those that have served now deserve to be part of the of the new Zimbabwe and to be rewarded for thier leadership, inspiration and courage.
