About  [Edit]

Volunteers of Shanti Fund are ambitious about celebrating the Tenth Anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi Statue on Long Island. Volunteers have contacted many schools and have received very strong and enthusiastic responses from administrators and teachers for their participation.

Each school district is expected to select or has already selected one from a dozen or so different sub-themes to achieve pathways to peace. Beginning September 22, 2009 and onwards, each school district will host an evening program from 6 pm – 8 pm in one of the auditoriums within their school district. All schools within the district are expected to participate in the program and work on the same chosen sub-theme for art competition, songs, chorus, skits and dances. The ethnic and cultural component will be presented by visiting guest organizations. Area Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, R.O.T.C., etc. will also be working on the same sub-themes for their presentation.

On Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the H. Lee Dennison Building, each high school team of three or four students will present a dialog for four to five minutes to strengthen their view of the pathways chosen by their school.

Enclosed please find a detailed program and plans as they have evolved and as agreed upon by each school district. Key people, who have been designated by each school administrator, along with the Volunteers of Shanti Fund, will be instrumental in carrying out and finalizing the details of the program. Please also review your school participation plan and inform us of any changes or enhancements.

Collectively we have reached a significant milestone after several meetings, and we are looking forward to your participation.

Sincerely,

Panna Shah, MD

On Behalf of Volunteers of Shanti Fund
