About  [Edit]

The mission of NYSAWG is to foster and promote sustainable agriculture practices and sustainable local and regional food systems. We do our work through the following activities:

Liz Henderson, owner of Peacework Organic Farm, Newark, New York

- Cross-constituency organizing, education and advocacy, bringing grass roots knowledge of the food system to the policy arena at local, state and federal levels;

- Bringing new resources to the small family farmers, small-scale food producers, regional distributors local retailers and consumers in their efforts to rebuild sustainable community-based food systems throughout New York State.

NYSAWG envisions economically viable, environmentally sound, and socially just community-based food systems that provide community food security for all New York residents. Our vision for New York agriculture that once again connects all people with healthy, affordable, desirable food includes the following elements:

- Food that is produced locally and regionally by farmers and producers who practice sustainable farming and food production.

- Local food dollars that stay local and build economically self-reliant regional food systems providing fair return on investment to all stakeholders.

- And a more equitable distribution of food dollars among farmers, farm workers and food workers.
