About  [Edit]

Mission:

Adopt-A-Watershed empowers communities to care for their watersheds and enhance student learning by providing local leadership development, educational tools, and access to a national network of resources.

Vision:

OUR VISION is for education to serve as the cornerstone of a sustainable community, in which all citizens live their lives consciously choosing actions that ensure a healthy quality of life for current and future generations.

Adopt-A-Watershed`s environment-based education programs promote this vision by engaging students in meaningful activities that lead to an understanding of sustainability and how their choices and actions impact the community and the overall environment.

Adopt-A-Watershed`s Principles:

- Healthy watersheds are essential to our continued survival.

- Wholesome, dynamic watershed systems are attainable and sustainable.

- Using our local watershed as the context for learning enhances the student learning experience.

- Students perform better on standardized measures of academic achievement, are more engaged and enthusiastic about learning, and have greater pride and ownership of accomplishment.

- Children and community members actively participating in watershed projects, such as restoration, monitoring, and education, strengthens our relationships with the land and each other, fostering watershed stewardship and community well-being.

- Long-term community vitality depends upon schools, businesses, industry, agencies, community groups, and leaders all working together for watershed health.

- Stewardship depends upon diverse community participation.

- Communities engaged in the ongoing health of their watershed inspire hope and the belief that we can all make a difference.
