Background: The Women's Centre grew out of the activity of the "new" women's movement of the late 1970s and became a registered club to facilitate funding. It adopted its present name in 1989.



Objectives: The Centre's objective is to achieve the equality of women regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or age.



Activities: The Centre provides free legal counselling, a rape crisis line, current events seminars, self-defence courses and general cultural activities. It also networks with other women's groups and service organizations.
