About  [Edit]

Mission

The Macoskey Center at SRU was created to promote a societal shift towards a regenerative partnership with ecological systems.

We do this because we understand:

Ecological systems form the basis for all planetary activity [ecological, economic, cultural]

Human development is increasingly changing the structure and function of these ecological systems with too little consideration of the consequences.

The Center enacts this mission in three fundamental ways:

Education about sustainability through events, workshops and programs;

Physical demonstration of sustainable technologies and systems; and

Supporting sustainability-focused academic initiatives and research.

Composting Technologies

The Waste = Food paradigm is put into action at our site including systems for municipal scale composting, garden composting, vermicomposting, and even a composting toilet!

Organic Gardening and Farming

Our Market Garden project provides hands-on experience for students as well as fresh produce for the Center-managed Slippery Rock Farmers` Market

Renewable Energy and Green Building

The facility infrastructure is designed using passive solar principles, local and natural materials, and utilizes strategies to minimize the use of non-renewable resources.
