Development Voyage is a social
enterprise that envisions to instill the concept of ‘sustainability’
into Nepali society. Sustainable development of Nepal in the present
conditions is a tough challenge. Promotion of domestic market and
products produced by local communities is vital towards attaining the
goal of sustainability. Development Voyage is initiating NAMAN
Supermarket in order to produce, promote, brand and market local
products. This supermarket model provides family environment to
shopping with rest cafe and internet included in the business idea
making it new in Nepali market. NAMAN, which is also the trademark for
the company's products, provides market to the products of low income
producers and creates jobs to the students. This business will deliver
the idea of sustainability into production and consumption through this
supermarket.
Vision
Development Voyage envisions to become a leading social enterprise for sustainable development of developing communities.
Objectives
1. Introducing and promoting sustainability concepts into Nepali communities and market.
This will be done by working for concepts like energy efficiency, using renewable energy (e.g. solar), eco-design, eco-production, bio/organic production, re-use and re-cycling, waste management, corporate social responsibility, carbon reduction etc.
2. Changing production and consumption pattern of Nepali market.
Establishing new chain supermarket model named ‘Naman’ and developing it as a socially responsible large retail outlet. It will work for branding, promoting, producing and marketing local products (agricultural and industrial) into Pokhara, then gradually other domestic markets and finally the international market.
3. Raising awareness and working towards sustainable development through research in sustainability issues, sustainability consultation and policy dialogue.
4. Working for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Tourism, Entrepreneurship development initiatives for creating employment and sustainable development.
5. Other various projects in line with the vision of the enterprise.
