About [Edit]
Our mission is to advance the creation of protected grassland natural areas and sustainable grassland communities on the Northern Great Plains through research, education and outreach. To help us advance this mission, we publish information and reports, sponsor speakers and organize public presentations, engage public officials, educators, and business and community leaders in dialogue and advocacy, and work to build collaborative relationships with individuals, groups and institutions.
Creating protected grassland natural areas will not only benefit declining grassland wildlife, but will also help to create a more diversified rural economy. Working with community-based institutions and local people, and with your help, we can achieve the twin goals of habitat protection and rural community revitalization.
Through our science-based conservation work, we hope one day that the diversity of wildlife that once roamed the grasslands of North American Great Plains will be restored on a system of grassland habitat complexes, created and managed through local public-private partnerships and funded by public and private sources and new entrepreneurial activities.
Our work seeks to supplement, not replace the livestock-based economy in the region. We work to build bridges between rural and urban constituencies who are willing to think creatively about the future of this magnificent region we call home.
