Greennovate is a social enterprise established in 2007 that develops ideas for a sustainable future, focusing our projects on environmental awareness and sustainable development for businesses and communities in China. Our network provides access to a global team of sustainability experts who are committed to accelerating the world's transition to a more sustainable and prosperous future. Our team in China is characterized by its can-do attitude, creative approaches, and forward thinking.
Greennovate's Community Initiatives
In addition to our sustainability consulting, we are the founders of two non-profit initiatives - MaGiC and GECKO.
GECKO (Greennovate Environmental Challenge for Kids Outreach) was established in 2008 to provide innovative environmental awareness education programs to smaller city high schools in China, inspiring children to become environmental ambassadors to their communities and encourage their friends, family, and future employers to develop a more sustainable lifestyle. Since our founding less than two years ago, we have reached out to over 5,300 students in 10 provinces across China. To see some of GECKO's main accomplishments in 2009, click here.
MaGiC (Made Green in China) is an open initiative designed to challenge the traditional mindsets locked into the label, "Made in China." Its mission is to inspire Chinese university students in developing a China that is greener and healthier for themselves and for future generations, introducing sustainability concepts and the green career opprortunities that will be available when they graduate.
MaGiC just got started in 2009 with our MaGiC Tour, our green design competition challenging youth to use waste as a resource to create new products, and an online survey to gauge student perceptions of the importance of nature, "greenism," and eco-friendly products on their quality of life.

In addition to introducing sustainability concepts and career opportunities to university students, our team provides students the opportunity to reach out to their communities and bring the GECKO program to local high schools as part of our Greennovate Train the Trainer Program. Hi, the concept of Ecosanitation should work well in China. Have a look here. There was one larger trial by the Swedish Ecosanres but it unfortunately failed for a variety of reasons. It should be tried again with the experience and improvements of the previous example, and maybe with the assistance of an expert like Wolfgang Berger.
