Purpose Statement
The Harvard College Social Enterprise Club seeks to promote the concept of
social enterprise through panels, dinners, internships and a social enterprise
business plan competition. Social enterprise is a field that applies the
efficiency and effectiveness of business practices and economic
principles in order to improve the service, outreach, and sustainability
of social organizations. Social enterprises can range from microfinance
banks that give credit to the desperately poor, to non-profit consulting
groups that counsel major non-profit organizations, to socially
responsible businesses. A new, exciting, and growing field, social
enterprise may well be the future of social service, change, and
responsibility and we as undergraduates see it as our role to get out the
word while educating ourselves about social enterprise.
