About [Edit]
Pro Mujer is a women's development organization whose mission is to provide Latin America’s poorest women with the means to build livelihoods for themselves and futures for their families through micro-lending, business training, and healthcare support.
Pro Mujer establishes sustainable microfinance institutions that offer credit and training programs geared to the needs of poor, undereducated women who either operate a small business or would like to open one. People living in poverty do not have access to credit services because they lack the ability to provide formal guarantees required by banks. Women face even greater challenges because they are often excluded from educational and economic opportunities that men traditionally enjoy and cannot find employment in the formal business sector. However, with a small loan and simple business skills training, women have shown they can be very successful entrepreneurs who repay their loans on time.
Since good health and self-esteem directly contribute to a woman’s ability to earn income and care for her family, Pro Mujer also offers health and human development programs to raise the women’s awareness about good health practices, and provides links to affordable primary health services for the women and their families.
