About [Edit]
Vision
A
global network of individuals and organisations built on shared values,
working with communities and committed to positive action to transform
conflict and build a world of justice and peace where basic needs are
met and human rights and dignity are respected.
Mission
To
promote people-centred approaches to transforming conflicts through a
process of learning, sharing and working together at all levels and to
do this in a way that builds trust and creates a culture of peace.
Values
The values on which our vision is built, and which guide our work together are:
- Justice, equity and peace
- Awareness, sensitivity and empathy
- Inclusiveness
- Tolerance and respect for human dignity
- Universal human rights
- High quality of work and effectiveness
- Co-operation and collaboration
- Commitment
- Celebration of the richness of diversity
- Commitment to environmental awareness and active responsibility
- Openness, accountability and transparency
- Solidarity
- Nonviolence
Principles
Our programmes aim to involve individuals and organisations working at all levels and are based on the following principles:
- Long term Approach: Conflicts often have long histories with causes going back many years, so action to transform them is necessarily a long-term process.
- Holistic and Integrated: Linking the levels; linking initiatives addressing different aspects of the causes; short-term efforts addressing the effects of conflict are informed by a longer-term understanding of root causes.
- People-Centred and Participatory: Valuing unique contributions of unique individuals; involving the people affected by the programme; responding to stated needs; giving a voice to people at all levels; and linking diversities.
- Challenging: Recognising and challenging power imbalance as a root cause of conflict, including economic inequalities and different access to power structures.
- Learning and Reflecting: Everything we do is a source of learning. Initiatives with unintended outcomes are often the best source of learning. Sharing the learning can assist others in similar situations. Monitoring and evaluating are an integral part of the learning process.
