APHA is the primary voice for public health advocacy, leading the way to protect all Americans and their communities from preventable, serious health threats and striving to assure community-based health promotion and disease prevention activities and preventive health services are universally accessible in the United States. APHA represents a broad array of health providers, educators, environmentalists, policy-makers and health officials.

APHA, in coordination with its members and state affiliates, works with key decision- makers to shape public policy to address today's ongoing public health concerns such as ensuring access to care, protecting funding for core public health programs and services and eliminating health disparities. APHA is also working to address emerging public health issues including pandemic flu preparedness, children's health, access to care, environmental health, managed care, public health infrastructure, disease control, health disparities, bioterrorism, international health and tobacco control.

APHA influences policies and sets priorities on a broad set of issues, including children's health, access to care, environmental health, managed care, public health infrastructure, disease control, health disparities, bioterrorism, international health and tobacco control. APHA advocates for state and federal funding for health and professional education programs in public health.
