About  [Edit]

Our Vision

To build strong communities through civic journalism.

Our Mission

The Connecticut Alliance for Better Communities, Inc. was created for the charitable and educational purpose of encouraging and increasing civic engagement of Hartford residents by:

- educating youth and families about various social services and how to best access those services

- educating residents about how government and the media work, and how to effect positive change.

- offering opportunities to explore and engage directly in civic journalism.

About Us

CABC was founded in January 2004 by Ann-Marie Adams and other

community members who participated in another community endeavor called Leadership Greater Hartford. LGH is a nonprofit organization that offfers comprehensive leadership training for working-age professionals, older adults and high school students. LGH partnered with Hartford 2000 to offer a neighborhood leadership program for Hartford residents. Adams was a member of the LGH class of 2003. Adams conceived the plan in summer of 2003 and shared it with several LGH class members. In January 2004, 10 people met at the Hartford Public Library and formed CABC. The founders believed this endeavor is one way to help strengthen Hartford's neighborhoods.
