Our Mission

Tn_124_2411
Women's Earth Alliance empowers and unites grassroots women environmental advocates worldwide into collective action. By providing access to communication tools, support services and networking capabilities, Women's Earth Alliance helps women strengthen their own alliances in order to develop a collective agenda for impacting change at the local, regional and global level.

Who We Are

Tn_127_2797Women's Earth Alliance is a response to an unmistakable trend: When women are in leadership positions-- actively accessing the tools and resources they need-- communities and environments thrive. The United Nations concludes that "women's personal stake in the distribution of natural resources has direct links to poverty eradication, economic growth, good governance, and improved quality of life.

In villages and cities around the world, grassroots women are protecting their communities, stewarding their forests, rivers, and land, and transforming their local economies. Too many of these women work in isolation and without the support structures they need. There are tens of thousands of grassroots women leaders who are a part of a sustainability movement they cannot even see.

WEA, which grew out of Women's Global Green Action Network, was formed to build the mechanisms for women to locate each other, build their own alliances, and comprehend the powerful movement they are working within. WEA identifies the needs of women environmental advocates so that they have the support, partnerships, and visibility they need to co-create change. WEA works to identify and reach the burgeoning numbers of women "under the radar" who are not yet networked globally with other women advocates. We create the powerful space for women to truly join forces, build collective agendas, and mutually inspire others into action.

WEA is the vital linkage between existing services and resources and women's on-the ground needs. We work with strategic partners to channel trainings, information, advisory services, technical support, mentorship programs, and communication technologies. Each phase of WEA's work has a critical purpose—to connect and build networks between women working on environmental issues.

Our Vision

Tn_women_millieadam1 Women's Earth Alliance envisions a world in which grassroots women environmental leaders around the globe are in continual communication — exchanging best practices, defining shared agendas, and collectively enacting a global shift towards environmental and social justice. We foresee a world in which women, with expanded access to both communication tools and decision-making processes regarding natural resource management, can powerfully participate in the development of global sustainability — thereby reducing poverty, encouraging democracy, promoting peace, and enhancing the social and environmental health of the planet.

Goals

Tn_movimiento WEA's goals embody our vision and guide the development of our strategies, programs and implementation plans.

* EMPOWER GRASSROOTS EFFORTS OF WOMEN: Amplify the ability of women to address environmental challenges in our own communities, and provide the opportunities for building strategic partnerships with counterparts around the world.

* LINK RESOURCES TO NEEDS: Facilitate easy and efficient access to critical resources that directly fulfill women's organizing and advocacy needs.

* FORGE A GLOBAL MOVEMENT: Build a worldwide movement of women who are promoting environmental stewardship and the health, equity, and sustainability of our communities.

Women's Earth Alliance is a project of the Earth Island Institute (EII)
