UCN - The World Conservation Union was founded in 1948 and brings together almost 1000 members globally (states, government agencies, NGOs and affiliates), and some 10,000 scientists and experts in a unique worldwide partnership. In Mozambique, IUCN began its activities in 1993 and established the country office in 1998. Since then, IUCN's country representation in Mozambique has been developing various projects and activities in partnership with other institutions and donor agencies. The foci of the work being on: a) Management of natural resources, b) Capacity building, c) Environmental policy and legislation, economics and access to natural resources, d) Environmental communication and awareness, e) Environmental studies and assessments and; f) Biodiversity.

Our Goals
Development and implementation of models that promote sustainable use of natural resources and improve the well being of communities in multiple use and protected areas as well as adequate accounting of the economic development of the country.
Our Objectives
1) Contribution to capacity building of various stakeholders to address the current and emerging challenges of sustainable development.
2) Support awareness raising efforts using various communication means to learn and inform stakeholders at national, provincial, district and local level on relevant environmental and natural resources management issues.
3) Contribution to poverty alleviation efforts through derivation of economic gains from conservation activities in both multiple use and protected areas.
4) Design and implementation of workable and mutually beneficial partnership models between state, private sector and communities in the sustainable use of natural resources.
5) Promote engagement of the private sector and state in implementation of sustainable development principles through integration of adequate accounting at firm and national levels of environmental costs and benefits associated with development initiatives.
