The aims and objectives of NGOCE are:



1] To promote environmental sustainability through education and community participation.

2] To build the capacity of member organizations and the secretariat.

3] To conduct research on environmental issues.

4] To facilitate interaction and cooperation with national and international agencies.

5] To promote community development and sustainable use of natural resources.

6] To contribute to the formulation and review of environmental treaties.

7] To ensure adherence to environmental treaties and conventions through policy advocacy.



Disturbed that there has been a high level of environmental abuse and destructive use of natural resources in Nigeria;



Noting that these environmental abuses are born out of greed, ignorance and poverty, and that these abuses are manifested in the rampant environmental crises, economic decline and the near loss of traditional and cultural values;



Observed that development activities are undertaken without proper investigation of the possible and unanticipated negative effects on the people and the environment and there exists an abysmally low level of environmental awareness and consciousness;



Knowing that Nigerians are always willing to follow any course of action that will promote their well being and protect their lives;



Seeing that efforts of Government are yet to take their roots among the citizenry;



Convinced that the mass of the people should have control of their environment and harvest it for their benefit, in a sustainable manner;



NGO Coalition For Environment [NGOCE] was formed in 1995 for the purpose of working together for a safe environment for all, in the process ensuring that natural resources which provide needed economic and environmental security are protected and equitably harvested for the benefit of the indigenous people.
