About [Edit]
In 1964, the first meeting of the International Halfway House Association was held. Thirty people attended that meeting in Chicago. That was the birth of the International Community Corrections Association. Today, after more than 30 years and a name change in 1989 [to the International Association of Residential and Community Alternatives], the ICCA represents more than 250 private agencies operating over 1,500 residential and community alternative programs throughout the world. There are an additional 1,000 individual members. ICCA member agencies offer a variety of services to courts, Departments of Corrections, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, counties, states and provinces, and cities throughout the United States and Canada. Programs include:
• Community based corrections centers
• Community corrections programs
• Educational/vocational services
• Drug testing/treatment
• Tutoring services
• Day treatment
• Crisis intervention
• Family/individual counseling
• Victim services
• Community service supervision
• Bail Supervision
• Home detention/electronic monitoring
• Neighborhood outreach
• Residential treatment
• Aftercare
ICCA has been an affiliate of the American Correctional Association [ACA] since 1975, and an affiliate with full voting status with the United Nations Alliance of Non-Governmental Organizations in Criminal Justice since 1982. ICCA is also an affiliate of the American Probation and Parole Association and the International Corrections and Prison Association. In addition, ICCA liaises with several other national and international community corrections organizations.
