WDCS's objectives are:
- To reduce, and ultimately, eliminate the continuing threats to cetaceans and their habitats.
- To raise awareness of cetaceans and educate people about the need to address the continuing threats to their welfare and survival.
WDCS Goals:
- the appropriate declaration of cetacean critical habitat in domestic waters
- the protection of this habitat in a network of well protected legally declared marine protected areas and conservation agreements
- the removal of threatening processes, with a particular emphasis on noise and chemical pollution, fisheries and aquaculture interactions and habitat loss
ongoing commitment to cetacean and ecosystem scientific research and ecosystem-based management
- the creation of a Marine Mammal Protection Act all Australian cetaceans included in the CMS species listings
